Product description

The sword is a fine example of a German military cut-and-thrust weapon with a swept hilt, carried by the Munich Town Guard around 1600. The slightly shorter blade and stout hilt were well-suited to breaking up street fights or tavern brawls, tasks that the town guard frequently performed. The sword has been designed for practical use. Several examples of this sword may be found in private and public collections, including one in the Wallace Collection and several at the Bavarian National Museum. The replica features a sharp, well-tempered 1065 high carbon steel blade, a steel pommel and guard, and a wooden grip wrapped in twisted steel wire for a secure hold. The sword is supplied with a leather scabbard.
