Product description
This coin set contains a replica of a denarius commemorating the victory of Marcus Antonius over the Armenians in 34 BC. The obverse shows a bust of Marcus Antonius, the reverse a bust of Cleopatra. The coins is directly modeled after an original specimen.
Cleopatra VII (69/68 BC) was the last pharaoh of ancient Egypt. Marcus Antonius became embroiled in a power struggle with Octavianus over the succession of Julius Caesar and entered into a political and romantic alliance with Cleopatra in 41 BC. After their defeat at Actium in 31 BC, both their lives came to an end and Egypt became a Roman province.
The coins is executed in tin with a silver-grey lustre. A fascinating piece for collectors and enthusiasts of classical antiquity.
