Product description
This coin package contains a replica of a sixpence from Elizabeth I, formed directly from an original. These coins were known as 'mill coins' and were struck with a screw press. The obverse shows the bust of Elizabeth I, the reverse the crowned royal shield.
Elizabeth I, daughter of Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn, ascended the throne in 1558. During her reign, the Spanish Armada was defeated in 1588, making England a leading naval power. Her reign is called the 'Golden Age': a time of exploration and flourishing, in which William Shakespeare also thrived.
The coin is made of tin with a silvery-grey lustre. A fine piece for lovers of the Tudor period and for collectors.
