Product description

This eagle fibula is based on a find from 1888 from a mausoleum on the Via Flaminia near Rome, dating from the 5th-6th century. The originals were decorated with cloisonné and gold-cell work on gilded silver, with inlay of garnet and mountain crystal; our version uses red and white glass flux for this.

Executed in bronze, with dimensions of 4.5 x 3 x 1 cm. On the back is a sturdy pin with spiral spring, suitable for heavy woolen fabrics.

Archaeologically, the eagle is considered a characteristic motif of Gothic craftsmanship and was used by both East and West Goths to fasten the peplos of women's dress at the shoulders, typically as a purple. A fine addition to your equipment for re-enactment from the late antiquity.
