Product description
These gauntlet are a detailed reconstruction of late medieval plate armour gauntlet, also known as hourglass gauntlets for their distinctive, hourglass-like shape. They are based on historical specimens that are believed to have been made by a Milanese armourer in the mid to late 14th century (around 1370) and can now be admired in the Museo Nazionale del Bargello in Florence.
The gauntlet are made of 1.6 mm steel and, like the original specimens, reinforced and decorated with brass on the back of the hand and around wrist and cuff. The inside is browned for extra protection against corrosion. The flexible design offers plenty of freedom of movement thanks to the integrated, riveted and sewn suede leather gloves with extra finger padding of thick leather. A leather strap in the palm keeps the gauntlet firmly in place.
These gauntlet are suitable for re-enactment, living history and costume, and form a fine addition to a 14th-century knight's armour. They are available in one size (large) and are supplied as a purple.
