Product description
This pilgrim badge is based on an original from the Museum of London and dates from the late medieval period, the 15th century. It depicts an angel carrying a crowned heart, shown as a half-figure with only head, arms and wings. A winged and wounded heart was one of the symbols of the Virgin Mary.
Mary was revered as Queen of Heaven and universal protector. Many churches had a statue of Mary as the center of veneration, and some pilgrimage sites attracted pilgrims from far and wide. It remains uncertain which sanctuary this badge originally came from: there were countless Marian cults in medieval England and beyond.
The badge is cast from lead-free tin and comes with a pin with a loose closure. A special piece for your medieval reenactment or for your collection.
