The hat is based on various illustrations from the Codex Manesse. Hats of this style were worn throughout Europe during the High Middle Ages.
The hat is well-suited to every worthy Renaissance gentleman, be it noble, merchant or scholar. It may be adjusted to the respective head size by means of a sewn-in band, and is therefore particularly well-suited to wearing over a bonnet, making it even more conspicuous than standard headgear.
