Product description
This bronze ritual cup is inspired by the so-called Gorm's Cup, also called the Jelling cup: a small silver cup that was placed in the grave of the Danish king Gorm the Elder around 958-959. The cup is one of the best-known finds from the burial mounds of Jelling and, despite later restorations, shows the fine silversmithing of the Viking Age.
This replica is cast in bronze with an antique finish, using the age-old lost wax technique (cire perdue): the design is first sculpted in wax, poured into a mold, and then replaced with melted bronze. This gives each piece its own hand-formed texture. With a capacity of approximately 30 ml, the cup is especially suitable as a ceremonial or decorative object.
