The beautifully decorated belt end is particularly well-suited to those wishing to make their own Roman belts, or as a spare part. The belt fitting is based on an original from the 2nd half of the 1st century AD, found in Serbia, near Tekija, which formed part of the Roman province of Pannonia. Originally, it was mounted on the end of one of the vertically hanging leather belt straps on the cingulum of a Roman legionary. Crafted from brass with a layer of pewter, the fitting is finished so as to resemble silver. Pre-drilled holes are provided for fastening to a belt strap.
