Product description
The inkwell (atramentarium) is a replica of several 1st-century originals. Inkwells of this type were used throughout the Roman Empire between the 1st and 3rd century AD. Nowadays they form part of the collections of, amongst others, the British Museum in London and the archaeological museum in Narbonne.
The inkwell is handmade and crafted from red clay (terra sigillata); on the inside it is glazed. The upper side features a hole into which the pen may be dipped in the ink. The smaller hole permits the pen to be rested there, so that any excessive ink can run back into the inkwell. This inkwell has a height of 6 cm.
