A wonderful accessory for Roman re-enactment and for assembling your own (leather) armour. A phalera for the Romans was similar to a medal or trophy. These round discs were awarded in the Roman army as a reward to soldiers who had distinguished themselves in battle. The discs were crafted from silver, bronze or gold. During military parades, Romans wore the phalerae on their leather armour. Veterans with armour full of phalerae were highly regarded and respected. This phalera is decorated with an eagle or aquila, the most important field sign for a Roman legion.
