Product description
This enamelled brooch is a replica of a 1st-century Roman wild boar fibula, with a design that traces back to the older wild boar motifs of the Celts. The animals on antique zoomorphic ornaments were often stylized after creatures that held spiritual significance for the Celts, such as hares, swans, deer, fish, horses, eagles, and the wild boar.
Wild boars roamed the forests of ancient Britain and were hunted by the Romans. The animal was a symbol of strength, and depictions of wild boars adorned various objects. The brooch is inlaid with red enamel and features a brooch pin on the back to fasten the ornament to clothing.
A powerful piece for your Celtic or Roman portrayal and a fine addition for collectors.
