Product description
This coin set focuses on the Roman conquest of Britain and contains replicas of a denarius of Vespasian and an aureus of Domitian, directly modeled after original coins. Vespasian served as legion commander during the invasion under Emperor Claudius in 43 AD and conquered the southwest of Britain, including the Isle of Wight and the hill forts of the Durotriges.
In 69 he was proclaimed emperor by his troops; under his rule the Romans conquered Wales. His son Domitian continued the policy, with general Agricola advancing deep into Scotland. Roman coins were also news carriers: the reverse spread major events and imperial messages throughout the empire.
The silver-colored denarius and the gilded aureus together form a fascinating set for re-enactors, collectors and enthusiasts of Roman history.
