Product description
This brooch is a replica of a Roman fibula in the shape of a deer, decorated with coloured enamel. The design draws on earlier Celtic animal motifs, in which the deer held a revered place and appeared frequently on images, coins and pottery.
The brooch is made of metal and inlaid with blue and white enamel. On the back is a brooch pin with which you can attach it to your clothing. Such brooches were worn by Roman soldiers in the provinces and by the local population, and were especially made in Britain and Gaul.
Inspired by a piece from the Met Museum collection. Supplied in a gift box with an information card — perfect for re-enactment or as a gift.
