Product description
This enamelled dog brooch is a replica of a Roman fibula in the shape of a running dog, dated around the 2nd century AD. The design is based on an original from the Vindolanda Museum at Hadrian's Wall. The dog has an elongated, slender body, pointed ears and an upturned tail that curls back; the tucked-in legs depict the running motion.
In Roman times, the dog was a companion, guard, hunter and tracker. He kept his master warm at night and appeared regularly in Roman myths and legends. The brooch has an antique bronze-coloured finish and is inlaid with bright blue, red and white enamel, with a brooch pin on the back.
A lively eye-catcher for your Roman reenactment and a fine piece for collectors.
