Product description
The lunula amulet is a replica of a 10th-century original, excavated in the region of the Kievan Rus. Around the 10th century, the tradition of wearing lunula amulets was passed on by the Slavic peoples to the Vikings of the Baltic Sea region. Long before this period, lunula amulets were worn by the Germanic tribes, a tradition that was subsequently adopted by the Romans. Lunula amulets were worn principally by women and girls, and symbolised protection. This lunula is semi-granulated. The original features silver granulation that was soldered onto the jewellery piece. This replica is cast in one piece.
