Product description
The earthenware cylinder is crafted after the cylinder in which the Dead Sea Scrolls were stored. Just as the scrolls themselves, these date from the period between 250 BC and 50 AD. The cylinders served to protect the scrolls from damage and wear. Cylinders such as these were employed throughout the classical world.
The cylinder is entirely handmade from red clay. Thrown on a potter's wheel and fitted with a lid, it is fully functional and well-suited to storing papyrus scrolls. It has a height of 22 cm and a diameter of 11 cm.
