Haubergeon, unriveted, galvanized 9 mm

The hauberk is crafted from 1.6 mm thick zinc-plated butted round rings with an inner diameter of 9 mm. The rings are handwoven in a four-in-one pattern. The hauberk has short sleeves and reaches to the hip.

It is available in sizes M, L and XL. The chest circumference is measured including a gambeson (subarmalis).

Short chainmail shirts such as these were worn by Vikings and others in the early Middle Ages. They remained in use until the 11th century and made a comeback in the second half of the 14th century. From the second half of the 14th century, such short chainmail shirts were called haubergeons — a diminutive of hauberk, or long chainmail shirt. Haubergeons offer optimal protection and greater freedom of movement than the hauberk. As such, they were also well-suited to wearing beneath armour.

Armour parts can be easily attached to the shoulders and arms of the haubergeon with leather laces.
