This pendant shows the eight-spoked kolovrat, the Slavic sun wheel, here designed as a medieval shield with an iron shield knob — a free interpretation of historical Slavic spoke wheel images.

The kolovrat represents the highest Slavic god Svarog: 'kolo' means wheel, 'vrat' spokes, and just like the original meaning of the swastika, the spokes rotate with the course of the sun, in the endless cycle of birth, life, death and rebirth. As a sun symbol, the kolovrat also stood for fertility, growth and prosperity, and among the medieval Slavs it was placed on windows and doors, on tools and household goods, as protection for people, animals and property. Medieval Slavic warriors wore it around their necks as a sign of strength and painted their shields and battle banners with it.
