Product description
The lamp is based on the 7th-century original found in the Anglo-Saxon boat grave of Sutton Hoo. Oil lamps such as these were employed throughout the settlements of the Germanic tribes. A comparable Viking original has been found in the 9th-century Oseberg ship. It may be lit with beeswax just as the originals were, simply adding a few small wooden pieces as a wick, or a piece of dried tinder fungus. To extinguish it, simply place a wooden plank on the tray.
