Product description
The surcoat is based on the overcoats worn by sergeants of the Knights Templar. Before it was worn by soldiers and nobles to distinguish one another on the battlefield, surcoats were a humble piece of clothing, worn by monks and the lower classes to remain clean whilst working. The Knights Templar wore it to suggest piety and protect themselves from the hot sun of the Levant, and it became an iconic part of their image. The non-noble sergeants were required to wear black or brown overcoats, whilst knights of noble birth wore white robes.
