Product description
The Holy Lance is a replica of the well-known holy spear, also known as the Spear of Destiny. The original may be viewed at the Hofburg in Vienna. In the 10th century the spear came into the possession of the Holy Roman emperors. The silver ribbon bearing the inscription 'Nail of the Lord' was applied by Hendrik IV in 1084. In 1273, the lance was first employed during coronations. Around 1350, Charles I had a golden case placed over the silver one, inscribed with the words 'Lancea et clavus Domini' (Lance and Nail of the Lord).
The spearhead is wrapped round with silver thread and a brass casing, and comes with a velvet sheath. Crafted from carbon steel, it measures 47 cm in total length and weighs approximately 950 grams. The spear is supplied excluding shaft.
