Product description

This fitting is based on a historical original excavated in Smolensk. It is made in the Borre art style (825-970). The fitting can be used for decorating belts and bags. It measures 4,5 x 4,5 cm and it is bronze coloured.

This fitting is executed in the Borre style. It has the typical Borre gripping-beasts en face.

In the Viking culture it was normal to obtain objects from other cultures and giving them a new context. That was also the case for this object. In the Frankish culture, the trifold-fitting was used by men to decorate their sword belt. In the Viking culture, this trifold-fitting was more elaborately decorated and it was given a female context. They wore it as decoration on their belt or as jewel.
