Aventails of this type were worn throughout Europe during the 15th and 16th centuries. In the 16th century it was immensely popular amongst the German Landsknecht and the Scottish and Irish Galloglass. This type of aventail is also known as a Bishop's Mantle. It is fitted with leather straps with replica buckles. The lower side of the collar is constructed from brass chainmail. This aventail is crafted from mixed riveted flat rings with round rivets in a 1:4 ratio.
