Aventails of this type were worn throughout Europe during the 15th and 16th centuries. In the 16th century they were immensely popular amongst the German Landsknecht and the Scottish and Irish Galloglass. This type of aventail is also known as the Bishop's Mantle. It features leather straps with replica buckles. The lower side of the collar is constructed from brass chainmail. The aventail is crafted from riveted flat rings with wedge rivets in a 1:4 ratio.
