Product description
The fitting may be employed for decorating belt ends and bags. Based on an original from Birka dating to the 10th century, it measures 2x2 cm and is bronze coloured.
It is inspired by the art style of the Magyars. The Magyars were a nomadic people who invaded Europe during the 9th century AD and settled in Hungary. The eastern Vikings traded with them and presumably utilised their art motifs in their own objects. Birka was a city where Vikings from across Europe traded and exchanged items, amongst them fittings such as this.
