Product description
The belt fitting is crafted in the Jellinge style (890–990). It may be employed as decoration on leather objects, such as belts and bags. It measures 1,8 x 2,5 cm and is bronze coloured.
The decoration of this belt fitting is based upon the decoration of the silver cup excavated from the pagan chamber-grave at Jelling, Jutland, Denmark. King Gorm was presumably buried here. This cup displays the same ribbon-animal decoration with striped bodies and heads in profile with round eyes, and has given the Jellinge style its name.
