Product description
The buckle is based on various originals from the 9th and 10th century. The buckle is well-suited to belts of 3 cm wide and is silver coloured.
The buckle ends on each side with a stylised long-beaked bird's head, which was a popular motif in Viking art. The execution of this motif is typical of the Jellinge style, which occurred from 890 to approx. 990. Typical of the Jellinge style are the so-called ribbon-animals, as depicted on this buckle. The ribbon-animals have a striped body and their heads are shown in profile with circular eyes.
The depiction of the animal in profile distinguishes the Jellinge style from the preceding Borre style, where the animals are shown en face.
