This couple earrings shows the so-called Moesgaardmask: a bearded face interpreted as Odin. The design is modeled on the Moesgaard rune stone, today on display in the Aarhus Museum (Denmark), which dates from the end of the Viking Age.

The rune stone is written with runes on two sides; the third side is almost completely occupied by it mask. Presumably it was the original mask of leather and during the Viking Age it was used in sacred acts to protect travelers on the road.
