This hand-made board game brings a strategic pastime from the Viking age to your own table. Hnefatafl, also known as the 'king's table', is a game for two players whose origins date back to around 400 AD in Scandinavia.
The game board is made from light-colored ash wood, decorated with Norse knot motifs, and comes with playing pieces made of horns: a king with his twelve defenders against a numerically superior force of attackers. All pieces are stored in a sturdy leather pouch with drawstring.
The king stands, surrounded by his loyal followers, in the center of the board under siege and must try to escape through one of the escape corners, while the opponent does everything to encircle him. This game requires concentration and logical thinking and at the same time offers a nice glimpse into the tactical spirit of the Vikings. Suitable from age 5 and includes an illustrated guide.
