The high quality Viking seax is inspired by historical originals. It features a beautiful wooden grip with brass plates on the top and bottom. The top also has a ring for a leather lace. The blade is crafted from Damascus steel. This steel is named after the capital of Syria, Damascus, where the steel was invented. Damascus steel is a type of steel composed of two or more different steel types. A higher carbon steel and a milder steel are repeatedly forged and folded, creating a distinctive pattern in the blade. In the Middle Ages it was thought that this steel possessed magical properties. Modern fantasy series also employ Damascus steel to portray magical steels, such as the Valyrian steel in Game of Thrones. Damascus steel combines the good properties of softer and harder steel, resulting in higher hardness, strength, durability and flexibility. The leather scabbard is richly decorated with brass fittings. The fittings feature small triangular decorative motifs, whilst the leather displays a striped pattern.
