Product description
The design for this special torque is inspired by the famous dragon head of the Viking burial ship found in Oseberg. The dragon head is crafted from wood and adorned the Oseberg ship's prow (around 800 AD). The prow is still exhibited in the beautiful Viking Ship Museum in Oslo, where the original ships may also be seen. These are the best preserved Viking ships in the world and they even have ornamental engravings in the Oseberg animal style. The dragon head served as a prow, yet it is reasonable to suppose that such dragon figures adorned several other objects as well.
The torque has a beautifully twisted design, with the ends fashioned as two dragon heads. It is light in weight (approx. 100 grams) and easy to wear, as it does not press on the neck. The torque is well-suited to both men and women with a neck circumference of up to 55 cm. To put it on, the two ends may be pulled away from each other so that the torc can be hung around the neck; once in place, the ends can be bent back again.
This is a fine piece of jewellery for re-enactors, but also an excellent way to elevate a modern outfit. Crafted from high quality bronze, it catches the light beautifully. The silver-plated version has a layer of silver over the bronze, so that the torque has the appearance of solid silver.
