Product description
The shoes are accurate reconstructions of models discovered in the Viking settlement of Haithabu (also known as Hedeby), near present-day Schleswig in Germany, and date from between 900 and 1150 AD. The design is characteristic of the early Middle Ages in Northern Europe, featuring a higher shaft that is laced both above and below the ankle. A notable feature is the raised heel, typical of footwear from this region and era. In the construction of turnshoes, the upper leather was stitched to the sole by means of needle and thread. The shoe was then turned inside out so that the seams were neatly concealed on the inside, affording protection against wear. These shoes are well-suited to early medieval reenactment.
