In the Viking Age, tweezers, in addition to nail cleaners and ear spoons, were often part of the toilet accessories of women's costumes and have been found in many different forms in the Viking settlement areas. Ever since the bronze Age people used bronze tweezers for body care; among Egyptians and Romans they were even part of medical instruments. Viking women often carried the tweezers along with other toilet utensils on a long chain or leather strap attached to their shell fibulae, up to waist height, so that it was always within reach.
