Product description
The Vikings knew only one type of coins: the penny, struck in silver and adopted from the Anglo-Saxon coins in circulation when they began plundering England. If a Viking king wanted to rule for a long time, he needed the support of both Christian Anglo-Saxons and pagan Vikings, and with cleverly chosen symbols on their coins they kept both parties satisfied.
This set contains three replicas: a St. Peter penny with sword and hammer, a penny of Anlaf Guthfrithsson with the raven of Odin, and a penny of Erik Bloodaxe. Each coins is cast directly from an original and made in lead-free tin, double-sided and attached to an information card.
A fascinating set for collectors and for those who re-enact the Viking age.
