This filigree openwork disc fibula is executed in the so-called Ringerike style, based on an example from Gotland.

Executed in bronze, with a diameter of 3.4 cm. On the back there is a sturdy pin with which the fibula is attached to the garment.

The Ringerike style is a Scandinavian art style from the Viking Age that was widespread from the beginning to the second half of the 11th century, named after the Norwegian landscape Ringerike. The style developed from the Mammen style, with influences from Ottonian and Anglo-Saxon manuscript illumination, and uses motifs such as lion, bird and snake in a tighter, more naturalistic design.
