Product description
Caps of this kind were worn primarily by ladies during the Middle Ages and Renaissance. Throughout these periods, ladies were expected to wear head coverings in public. Only unmarried girls and prostitutes went about with uncovered hair. Such caps were particularly associated with women of the bourgeoisie and the working class — amongst them peasant women, citizens, landladies, market vendors and the like. Caps were also eminently practical: during household tasks such as cooking and dusting, the cap protected the hair from grease and dust. The cap may be fastened beneath the chin to ensure it remains in place. Thanks to its universal design, it combines well with many outfits and is well-suited to re-enactment, LARP, Cosplay and theatre.
