The historical weaving method, also known as herringbone motif, has been employed for centuries, even in the present era. During the early Middle Ages it was used by various peoples all over Europe, such as the Merovingians, Vikings and Germanic peoples. Textile fragments of herringbone motif fabric have been excavated in various Viking towns, such as Jorvik, Hedeby, Birka and Oseberg. These trousers are crafted entirely from a herringbone pattern fabric and therefore present a highly historically accurate appearance — a considerable asset for early medieval re-enactors.

Viking trousers such as these were worn from around the seventh to the eleventh centuries. This model has short legs. Leg wrappings may be worn below the knees, as shown in the photograph. By utilising a contrasting colour of leg wrappings, one can adjust the trousers to suit individual preferences.
