Product description
This sleeveless men's waistcoat stands in the tradition of the eighteenth-century waistcoat. The waistcoat developed in the second half of the seventeenth century into a fixed part of European gentlemen's clothing: it was worn over the shirt and under the long justaucorps and together with the trousers formed the three-piece men's suit. Early models were long and closed high at the front, but over the course of the eighteenth century the neckline was cut progressively deeper and the skirts gradually became shorter.
This model is inspired by the waistcoats from the middle of the eighteenth century. The long skirts still recall the early forms, while the deeply cut front already points towards the more open models of the later eighteenth century. The waistcoat is made of sturdy canvas (100% cotton) and closes with a button list featuring silver-coloured decorative buttons. Two practical outer pockets offer space for your belongings and with the lacing on the back you can adjust the width to your preference. The colour is black.
Due to the combination of long skirts and an open front, this waistcoat is particularly suitable for historically inspired outfits from circa 1750-1780. Wear it over a shirt and under a justaucorps for a complete three-piece suit, or combine it more loosely for a seafarer or adventurer look. A versatile choice for re-enactment, living history and historical event.
