The sax, seax or scramaseax is a large knife that was worn by European men in the 5th until the 11th century. Typical for the seax is that it has a single-edged blade and that it is worn horizontally, with the sharp edge upwards. It occurred in several lengths, from a short knife to longer than a sword.
This is a reconstruction of a typical early medieval short seax. The cross-guard consists of two steel discs that are attached to the horn grip with two nails. The pommel is also made of steel. The seax has a length of 37 cm with a blade of 23 cm and a max. width of 3,6 cm. It weighs 0,5 kg and is delivered including a scabbard.
