Get the look: desert assassin

Get the look: desert assassin

Nataniah once had a peaceful life. She grew up in one of the larger cities where her parents made decent money as merchants. But one day, everything changed. An earthquake hit and left the city in ruins. Nataniah was left with nobody to take care of her and eventually got recruited by an assassin's guilt. She now goes after whatever target she’s assigned to earn a living for herself.

For this Get the Look blog, we’ll be showing you how you can style a desert assassin look.

Top

Since we were aiming for a more exotic, desert look, a pretty blouse or basic tunic wouldn’t really give the right vibe. This is why we opted to make a bandeau top out of a scarf. Scarfs can be wrapped and tied around the body in different ways to make them into a top.

Skirt

This suede leather skirt is a wonderful item for fantasy looks. The shape and material make it very versatile, as it can work for many female characters, depending on how you style it. Combined with this bandeau top and leather armour, it’s perfect for a female warrior look set in a tropical or desert environment.

Vambraces

It’s important for an assassin to wear protective gear. After all, it’s not a job without risks. Steel armour on a desert character, however, is very out of place. It would be like the character is walking around wearing an oven. Leather armour makes a lot more sense, both practically and aesthetically.

Greaves

To expand on the leather armour, without making the look too heavy feeling, a pair of greaves are perfect. It balances out the look so the legs won’t look too bare compared to the rest of the body.

Belt

By wearing this two part belt over the suede leather skirt, you immediately create that tougher, fighter vibe. A belt is also a great accessory, as you can wear it just on its own, but you can also use it as a way to add more accessories to your look. Such as weapons, bags or pouches.

Sword

If you want to give your character a more exotic look, you should look at weapons that weren’t used in medieval Western Europe and Great Britain. Ottoman or Asian swords often have a different shape compared to Western European swords. This difference is automatically associated with exotic cultures and thus will work better than a “regular” medieval sword.

The scimitar used in this look cannot be shipped to the UK due to the local weapons law, but we do have a LARP scimitar with you could use.

War hammers

The war hammer is a lesser known weapon amongst the general public. It became a necessity in battle when armour became too strong to easily pierce with a sword or an axe. The war hammer’s blow is so powerful that it can cause significant damage, without having to pierce armour. The slightly curved, pointed side was used to hook onto an enemy's armour and drag them to the ground. The pointed side could also punch a hole in someone’s helmet or chest plate once they were down.

An assassin could easily use a war hammer to sneakily pull an unsuspecting guard to the ground and quickly knock them out.

Weapon holder

Obviously, when you’re carrying multiple weapons, you need to be able to carry them in a way without always having them in your hands. A both practical and bad-ass way of carrying your weapons is by carrying them on your back. Although this is technically a sword holder, because it’s made for LARP weapons, it also fits some other weapons, such as war hammers.
